The summer transfer
window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as
managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all
the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd close in on Arturo Vidal.
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing a
sensational €40m deal for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal that would also see
Patrice Evra head in the opposite direction, according to reports in Spain.
Speculation in recent weeks has heavily linked Vidal with a
move to United with new boss Louis van Gaal understood to have made the Chilean
international a key target as he looks to continue his rebuilding project
at Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old did little to play down the idea of a move
after admitting he would love to play for United – who he called ‘one of the
biggest clubs in the world’. When quizzed about reports linking him with the
Red Devils, Vidal told reporters:
“I’ve heard about the rumours, but I haven’t spoken more
about this subject,” he said.
“I’m very calm, but anyone would love to play for one of the
biggest clubs in the world.
“I’m enjoying my holidays, and when I return to Italy I’ll
see what happens.” source: Daily Star
It appears the potential move has now taken a huge step
closer to completion with Spanish newspaper Marca reporting that Vidal is now
‘packing his bags for United’ after the midfielders agent, Fernando Felicevich, held
successful talks with officials from the former champions.
Felicevich is also the agent for Alexis Sanchez and he has
been in England recently to secure a deal for the attacker to join Arsenal,
and the newspaper suggests he took the opportunity to tie up the loose ends for
Vidal’s move to United with van Gaal sanctioning the €40m (£32m) purchase
with defender Patrice Evra heading in the opposite direction.
Many have been skeptical as to why Juventus would even
contemplate selling a key player such as Vidal, but the news from Marca comes
just days after the Mirror reported that the Italian champions had to sell
either the Chilean or Paul Pogba in order to balance the books this summer, so
it appears a move to Old Trafford could really be on the cards.
It if comes off, it will be a stunning coup from van Gaal
and continue whats already been a promising start to his summer transfer
business following the purchases of Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw.
There’s little doubt that van Gaal had to add several
players to his squad this summer after last season’s disappointing campaign and
United fans would be ecstatic if he could manage to lure a player of Vidal’s
immense quality to the club, but we’ll have to wait and see just how much truth
there is behind Marca’s claims.
