
Despite a few expensive flops scattered throughout the year, 2013′s total box office haul managed to narrowly beat 2012′s, thanks to big-budget franchise sequels like Iron Man 3, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Despicable Me 2 – the latter of which also broke the record for home video sales. It was another year of comic book films and sequels grabbing the attention of moviegoing audiences and 2014 looks to follow the trend.
